For most part of the movie we are immersed in the scenic beauty of rural Karnataka. The movie deals with symbolism and one such aspect is the significance of the construction of the dam. The villagers live on a mountain known as 'Sita Peak'. The government has ordered the villagers to migrate and provided the families with relief money depending on the size of their property. The main characters of the movie include Duggajja(husband's father), Ganapa(husband), Nagi(wife) and Krishna (young man). Dugajja was the priest of the temple in the village and takes pride that his family has been performing 'nema' for generations. He remained adamant throughout the movie against reallocating. He's a man of pride, strongly believing in his old customs and traditions often found mocking the signs of modernity. On the other hand Nagi is ready to accept change and move on from the deep rooted traditions. A strong spirited woman who isn't afraid of hard work and looks forward to a future in town. We can see her high spirits till the end of the movie where she doesn't resign to fate. Ganappa is seen wavering between the beliefs of his father and wife without a strong opinion of his own. His personality comes out when he has a stand-off with Krishna, at the end we see him resigning himself to fate and his god. Krishna is a high spirited character who comes to this family to help them out. His journey to Bombay was unsuccessful and he hoped to save this family in times of their need. The acting delivered in this movie made the characters come alive along with Kasaravalli's unparalleled direction. The movie holds a lot of intricate subplots and shows us the complexity of relationships.
